Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) is a public-private university established in 1995 through a partnership between the Government of Sikkim and the Manipal Education & Medical Group. Headquartered in Tadong, Gangtok, on a 35-acre campus in the Eastern Himalayas, SMU is one of India's pioneering names in distance and online education. Its distance and online programs are delivered through the Centre for Distance & Online Education, using the Online Manipal digital learning platform, and span Management, Computer Applications, Commerce, and Arts. SMU is recognized by the UGC and accredited by NAAC, and its professional programs carry the additional approval of the AICTE, making its degrees widely accepted for both higher studies and employment.
